Directions to Cemeteries in Brown County

ACREY-KESLER:  From Brownwood take Highway 279. After crossing the Lake Brownwood bridge, travel one mile. Note Acrey-Kesler Cemetery sign on the highway. Turn left for about one-fourth mile.  Ihe cemetery is on the right,and has a pipe fence around it. Located on private property.

ANTIOCH:  From Brownwood take US 377 east to FM Road 1467 (about 9 miles). Turn right on FM 1467, then left on CR 294. Cross two creeks, the church is on the right and the cemetery is behind the church.

BANGS:  From Brownwood take Highway 67-84 west to Bangs, TX (About eight miles). Turn left at Fourth St. Cross railroad to Ray Barnes Dr.

BEAIRD   From Brownwood take FM 2525 south of Brownwood. Travel about five miles. Cross railroad tracks to the junction of CR 269. The cemetery is on the right directly across from the intersection.  Located on private property.

BLAKE:   From Brownwood take US 183 north to May, TX, then left on FM 583. Travel about`ten miles to the Williams comrmnity. Continue an additional three miles to the cemetery, which is on the left.

BLANKET : From Brownwood take US 377 east to Blanket,TX (about thirteen miles).  Follow theUS Highway sign to CR 321. Go one block to the intersection of CR 321 and CR 619. Turn right onto CR 619. Two blocks to the cemetery, which is on the right.

BROOKS LEE:  From Brownwood take US 377 south. One mile out of the City of Brownwood, take FM 1176. Travel about 14 miles. Turn left at the third intersection, then one mile south and on the left is the cemetery.  This cemetery is not accessible. Located on private property.

BROWN FAMILY:   From Brownwood take US 377 east to Early, TX. Turn left onto Longhorn Dr. Then left again at Bluebonnet Dr.  Located on private property.

CEDAR POINT:   From Brownwood take US Highway 377 south to FM 1176. Turn right, travel 7.10 of a mile to the junction of CR 234. Left for 4.10 of a mile to the cemetery, which is on the left.

CLEAR CREEK:  From Brownwood take US 67 west. Turn left on CR 167.  Marker on Highway points to cemetery. Go one mile, turn left to cemetery.

CONNELL:   From C.C. Woodson Street in Brownwood, turn right on FM 2525 for about two miles, then turn right on CR 315 (unpaved) just prior to the intersection of FM 2126.  Travel on dirt road to entrance to cemetery.

CROSS CUT:  From Brownwood take Highway 279 north for twenty-four miles, near the community of Cross Cut. The cemetery fronts on the Highway.

ELKINS (GHOLSON):  Take Austin Ave south from Brownwood. Travel to the intersection of FM 2126 and CR 267. Approximately seven miles south of the intersection to a dirt road turning to the right (CR 264). Cemetery is on a hill.

EUREKA:  From Brownwood travel  about eight miles east on US 377.  Note "Eureka Cemetery"sign on the highway. Turn left about two miles. The cemetery is on the right.

FAIRVIEW: (GROSVENOR): From Brownwood take Highway 279 north to FM 1850, turn left. Travel thorough Grosvenor and cross FM 585 onto CR 108. A distance of one mile. The cemetery is on the left.

GENTRY:  From Brownwood take US 377 south for 17 miles.   Then an additional one-half mile west of 377, in field.  Located on private property.

HEFLIN:   From Brownwood take US 183 north. Pass thorough the community of Owens, to FM 1467. Turn right and travl two miles to the entrance of the cemetery.

HENDERSON:  From Brownwood take US 377 south to FM 586. Before reaching the Brookesmith School, turn left on dirt road for about four miles. Abandoned in a pasture. Located on private property.

HENSON:  From Brownwood take US 377 east to CR 321. Turn right onto CR 284, then left onto 323 for one-half mile. Cemetery is on the left. Cannot see from the road. Private property.

INDIAN CREEK:  From Brownwood take US 377 south to CR 233, turn left.  Go three miles to a "T" or junction of CR 237. Turn right for an additional four miles. Cemetery is on the right.

JENKINS SPRINGS:  From Brownwood east on US 377 to the "Jenkins Springs" road sign. Turn right. Travel 4.2 miles to the cemetery.

JONES CHAPEL:  From Brownwood take US 377 east four miles. Note: Highway sign points to cemetery.

JORDAN SPRINGS:  From Brownwood take US 377 south. Travel about four miles south to CR 233. Turn left for two miles to the intersection of CR 225.  This cemetery is difficult to see from this intersection. It is on the left or east side of the junction.

LEWIS FAMILY:  From Brownwood take Highway 279 north to FM 1850 or the road to Grosvenor. At the junction of FM 1850 and CR 105, turn right. Cross over a small bridge and continue to the base of a small hill. On the
right and near a gate you can see a few markers. This Cemetery is abandoned and some of the markers have been removed.  Located on private property.

LOST CREEK (HOG CREEK):   From Brownwood take US 183 north to the community of May,TX. Watch for the CR 411 sign on the highway. Turn left. Travel about six miles, cross the creek, cemetery is on the right.

LOVING FAMILY:  From Brownwood take US 183 to just south of the May Cemetery. It adjoins the south fence line of the May Cemetery.

MACEDONIA (WEEDON):  From Brownwood take Highway 279 north to the State Park Road, #15. Turn left on Park Rd and before entering the Park area, the cemetery is to the right.

MANN:   From Brownwood take Highway 279 north to CR 120 (About twenty miles). Turn right and travel about three miles. Abandoned and not accessible.  Located on private property.

MAY:  From Brownwood take 183 north for about seventeen miles. You ·can see the cemetery from the road. (On your right).

McDANIEL:  From Brownwood take US 67-84 west to FM 1849. Turn right and watch for CR 147 to the left. cemetery is at the end of this road.

MORO:  From Brownwood take US 377 east to CR 325, a distance of about eight miles. Turn right on CR 325 for 1.5 miles. cemetery is on the left.

MUD CREEK (THRIFTY):  From Brownwood take Highway north to FM 2492. Turn left on FM 2492, travel about five miles to the intersection of FM 585.   Turn right and then a left on CR 146. Note cemetery signs.  Located on private property.

MUKEWATER:  From Brownwood take US 67-84 west thorough Bangs to CR 175 (gravel).  Go about one mile (do not cross railroad tracks).  Turn left for one mile. The cemetery is on the left, on a small hill.

PLEASANT VALLEY:  From Brownwood take US 183 north for 13 miles to FM 2273. Turn left and travel one mile. Can see the cemetery on the right.

RICE FAMILY:  From Brownwood take US 377 to the Brookesmith sign or FM 586. Turn right, go thorough Brookesmith to CR 221. Turn left. This is located on private property.

ROBERTS (BAUGH):   From Brownwood take Highway 279 north to the Lake Brownwood sign, or FM 2125. Turn right onto FM 2125 and travel for seven miles. This cemetery is located on the "Pecan Bayou Property". You will need directions once you arrive on this property.

ROCK CHURCH (LOGAN VALLEY):   From Brownwood take US 377 east to Blanket, TX. Travel north out of Blanket on FM 1467. At about the five miles distance you will see a cemetery sign or CR 354. Turn right. This road will dead-end at the cemetery. This cemetery is partially in Comanche County.

ROCKY CREEK:  From Brownwood take US 279 north for about seven miles to the Rocky Creek Church. You can see the church from the road. The cemetery is located immediately behind the church building.

ROUTH:  From Brownwood take US 377 east to FM Road 3100 or"Salt Creek Road."  A distance of 6.9 mile from the intersection with US 377. The cemetery is on the left on a small hill.

SALEM:  From Brownwood, take US 67-84 west thru Bangs, TX and right onto CR 240. Travel about three miles on CR 140 to a "Y" intersection. Turn east or ri~tto the top of the hill~ Cemetery is on the left.

SALT CREEK:  From Browrrwood take US Highway 377 east to FM Rd 3100 For "Salt Creek Road"· Turn left for five miles. The church and cemetery front on FM 3100.

SMITH:   From Brownwood take Highway 279 north for 22 miles. After crossing the Pecan Bayou look for the "Smith Cemetery" sign or CR 114. Cross over four cattle guards. (Approximately 2.6 miles).  After crossing
the fourth cattle guard, turn left at the first dirt lane. Follow this lane for two miles. You will cross the Pecan Bayou, no bridge. After crossing the Pecan Bayou stay to the left. Pass an old cistern. Imnediatley to the right is a metal gate. Tlhe cemetery is visible to the north of the gate. Be sure to close all gates as this is private property.  Attempt this only if the area has not received any rainfall recently.

SMITH-CARR:  From Brownwood take Highway 377 south to Brookesmith.  Turn right onto FM 586. Continue  on FM 586 to CR 221. The cemetery is on private property and can be seen frcnn the road, an the right.

STALEY:   From Brownwood take Highway 183 north and before you reach the Brownwood Airport, watch for "Staley Cemetery" sign. Turn right for one mile. Staley fronts on CR 340.

TRIPLITT:  From Brownwood take highway 279 north for 20 miles or CR 115. Turn right and travel about six miles. The cemetery is on the right and is on private property. Abandoned.

WINCHELL : From Brownwood take Highway 377 south for eighteen miles.  The cemetery is on the Highway.

WINDHAM:  From Brownwood take Highway 279 to Park Road 15.  Right onto Park Road, then left onto FM 2559. After crossing the Pecan Bayou, turn right at the Byrd's Store sign. The church and cemetery are across the road.

WOLF VALLEY:  From Brownwood take Highway 183 north, traveling thorough May, TX to CR 492. Turn left to the church building. Cemetery is behind the church.

ZEPHYR:  From Brownwood take US 183-84 for eleven miles south, to the comnnunity of Zephyr. Continue thorough Zephyr for one mile and at the junction of 183 and CR 259, turn into the cemetery.

In the updated version of Mrs Hazel Wetzels's book, "Rural Cemetery Inscriptions of Brown County," the authors have chosen to add AMITY in Comanche County;  BLANKET SPRINGS in Mills County; and TRICKHAM in Coleman County, to the list as many of the earlier Brown County residents were buried in these nearby cemeteries

AMITY:  From Brownwood take US 183 north, thorough May,TX to CR 495. Turn right onto CR 495. This is a gravel road. Travel 1.8 miles to the junction of CR 487. Turn left and travel 1.3 miles to the junction of Comanche CR 197. Turn right for 4.10 miles to the cemetery.

BLANKET SPRINGS:  From Brownwood take US 183, eleven miles to Zephyr, turn south on CR 259. Continue on CR 259 for approximately 4.5 miles to a gate over a cattle guard. The gate will be locked. Need permission from
the land owner.  Located on private property.

TRICKHAM:  From Brownwood take US 377 south. At about three miles turn onto FM 1176 for a distance of fifteen miles. At mileage nurmber fourteen, you will cross the Coleman-Brown County road marker. One mile to
the Trickham Church and the junction of Coleman CR 216. Turn left to the cemetery .
