Dr. David Pinckney Cobb

February 18, 1967 - September 12, 1951

Dr. David Pinckney Cobb was born February 18, 1867, to John Clark Cobb and Mary Elizabeth Bates.  In 1880 at age thirteen, he moved with his family to Brown County, Texas, where they became among the first settlers of the community of Blanket.

In the fall of 1893, Dr. Cobb enrolled at Georgia College of Medicine and Surgery.  After completing his medical training, he returned to Blanket to begin his practice.  Though he had planned to continue his studies at Dallas College of Medicine, local citizens urged him to remain and serve the growing community – a commitment he honored for the rest of his life.

Over sixty-two years of medical practice in Blanket and Brown County, Dr. Cobb delivered approximately 1,500 babies and provided devoted care to countless families.  He was wildly respected for his skill, compassion, and dedication and was known for never losing a mother or child in childbirth.

Dr. Cobb was also a member of the Blanket Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin in 1948.

He passed away on September 12, 1951, and he was interred in Blanket Cemetery in Brown County, Texas.
