This is a list of the Brown County schools from 1877
to 1998. From
1877 to 1930 the boundaries and the name of schools
changed often. In some
case one area may have had at least three different
names for their school.
Often times the same building would be used and the
building would be moved
to be more centrally located.
In checking the records there were about forty to fifty school in one given year. In the 1920s busses were used to transport students and the State Board of Education encouraged the small schools to consolidate so the boys and girls could get a high school education. Some of the names of school maybe a nick name. These names were found from courthouse records, school records and from the history of Brown County or family histories. I feel sure that we do not have all the names. Where we found dates we added the dates, but most of the dates of the opening and closing of the schools are not available to me.
